The House of the Mithraeum, a model of the best preserved Roman house in Mérida. It was a large villa just outside the city walls, with fine mosaics, underground rooms, its own water supply and baths. |
The Roman Bridge, 792 metres, crossing the River Guadiana. The islands in the river here made building the bridge easier, and was one reason for choosing this site for the city. Some sections of the bridge are completely original. |
The Temple, called "of Diana", was the main temple in one of the forums, and so was probably dedicated to Rome or Jupiter. It has survived because in the 16th century it was taken over as a house by los Condes de los Corbos. Some of the house has been left in place. |
The Civilian Forum This small section of the forum, like many other other parts of Mérida, was uncovered during recent building works, and was heavily restored to give an idea of what it looked like. |
