The Theatre's stage-building was built in time of Hadrian, after a fire. Although it has nearly all the original material (including every column except two), it had fallen down until restoration in the 20th century.

The audience area - with many tunnels underneath for members of the audience to reach their seats, and, they say, so that they could make sound effects of thunder and earthquakes by rolling large stones inside
