The
Arch of
Titus,
built by the emperor Domitian
(AD81-96) in honour of his brother, the emperor Titus (79-81).
On the inside of the arch,
scenes from the triumphal procession after the capture of Jerusalem by
Titus are carved.
The Jews revolted against the Romans in the reign of the emperor Nero.
Vespasian, the father of Titus and Domitian, was sent to deal with the
revolt. When Vespasian himself became emperor (69-81), Titus took
over the task of conquering the Jews. The end of Jewish resistance came
at the stronghold of Masada.
